The Zilzie story traces back through decades of grape growing (at one stage they were one of the largest independant grape suppliers to Southcorp) with the Forbes family finally deciding to skip the middle man and start making their own wines in 2000. With massive, mature vineyard holdings, they were able to 'cherry pick' the best fruit for their own label, whilst still maintaining profitability.The result is some of the best value, fruit forward wines on the market, with an emphasis in particular on alternate varieties.The 2005 vintage was relatively cool with next to no rain during the picking season. The grapes were sourced from vineyards in Victoria and New South Wales. The fruit and varietal flavours this year were outstanding.
